Orthodontist
Since 2013
Meet Dr. Ashley Smith, DMD, MBA
Dr. Ashley Smith is an experienced orthodontist, husband, father of four, and the doctor-owner of Next Level Orthodontics—a locally and family-owned practice serving New Braunfels, Spring Branch, and the surrounding Texas Hill Country.
His Path to Orthodontics
Dr. Smith grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where both of his parents were teachers. They instilled in him a strong appreciation for education, hard work, and serving others.
After graduating from Mayfield High School, he attended Western New Mexico University, where he played collegiate tennis, and later earned his degree in biology from the University of New Mexico. He continued his education at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston before returning to the Southwest to begin his dental career.
After five years of practicing dentistry and gaining extensive experience in orthodontics, Dr. Smith decided to pursue specialty training. In 2013, he completed his orthodontic education and earned his MBA from Roseman University of Health Sciences in Henderson, Nevada.
Since then, Dr. Smith has owned and developed orthodontic practices in South Texas, helped build practices throughout the Dallas area, and treated thousands of patients. Those experiences helped shape his vision for the kind of practice he wanted to create for his own community.
Building Next Level Orthodontics Together
Next Level Orthodontics is more than Dr. Smith’s practice—it is part of the Smith family’s story.
Dr. Smith and his wife, Krystal, built NLO from the ground up with a shared vision: to create the kind of orthodontic practice they would want for their own family. Dr. Smith brought the clinical experience and vision, while Krystal used her background in dental hygiene, patient care, technology, operations, and leadership. They brought that vision to life when their first location opened in New Braunfels in March 2020.
Together, they have been involved in nearly every aspect of NLO, from caring for patients and building the team to creating the offices and shaping the patient experience. What began as a vision shared by a husband-and-wife team has grown into two locations while remaining locally owned, family operated, and deeply personal.
As parents themselves, Dr. Smith and Krystal understand how difficult it can be to fit appointments into busy work, school, and sports schedules. That perspective is one reason Next Level Orthodontics offers Saturday appointments for local families.
A Family Rooted in the Community
Dr. Smith and Krystal are the proud parents of four sons. Their family shares meaningful connections with many of the same schools, teams, and communities as the families they serve.
Two of their sons have graduated from local high schools, including their oldest son Dylan, a proud Smithson Valley High School graduate—Go Rangers! Their youngest son, Mason, attends Canyon High School and will graduate with the Class of 2029—Go Cougars!
The Smiths know what it means to raise a family here, spend evenings and weekends at school and sporting events, and watch their children grow up in the Texas Hill Country. Their boys have grown alongside NLO, making the practice’s connection to the community much more than a business relationship.
Outside the Office
Outside the office, Dr. Smith enjoys playing tennis at John Newcombe, fitness, spending time with his family, and traveling. During the warmer months, you may find the Smith family floating the river, enjoying Schlitterbahn, or attending a local sporting event.
For Dr. Smith, orthodontics is about more than creating beautiful smiles. It is about caring for families, building lasting relationships, and serving the community his own family is proud to call home.
